Principal's Message

St Andrew’s Secondary School was founded in 1862 by the Anglican Diocese of Singapore. Since 2004, the school has been sited together with its affiliated Junior School and Junior College in St Andrew’s Village. Blessed with a proud heritage and with the strong support of the church, alumni members and parents, the school has grown from strength to strength.

A well-established school, St Andrew’s Secondary school provides holistic education for our boys to build character and develop life skills and competencies to navigate through life in the 21st Century. Servant leadership is a trait entrenched in the school’s origins, dating back to its founding to cater to the needs of poor Chinese boys. Following its tradition, the school’s vision is to nurture servant leaders who bring life to the nations.

In recognition of the different talents and abilities of the individuals, the learning goals in St Andrew’s aim to develop boys to become men of exemplary character whilst arming them with soft skills to be Skilled Communicators, Community Builders and Holistic Thinkers. To hone these skills, the school designs a wide range of programmes that empower our Saints and cultivate in them a strong sense of belonging and drive to serve the school and nation. The school’s curriculum and co-curriculum is kept current and is differentiated to cater to the needs of the different student segments: For example, the RKS Adams programme is designed for the top Express classes to stretch
thinking; the Jacob’s Ladder programme emphasizes academic support and opportunities in applied learning for boys in the Normal Academic stream; and the Marshall Plan focuses on Academic Support and Vocational Preparedness for boys in the Normal Technical stream. In addition, we offer applied subjects as an elective to our boys at the Upper Secondary level. Students in the Normal Technical stream now have an option to study Mobile Robotics from 2017 and from 2018, students in the Express stream may choose to build their interest in Electronics.

The school’s Applied Learning Programme - The Saints Engineering Design Programme, which was implemented at the Lower Secondary level, develops interest in engineering design. The boys learn and use Arduino, a stand-alone programming language and their foundation in Physics and Design and Technology to design and create intelligent vehicles.

Character building is another key focus area in St Andrew’s. The school has a strong co-curriculum which comprises its Citizenship and Character Education programme, the Career Guidance programme, a differentiated Values in Action programme, co-curricular activities and morning devotions. In addition, the school’s Sports and the Arts programmes provide Saints opportunities to shape their awareness and interest in these fields.

Our Learning for Life Programme - The Saints Rugby for Life programme, encourages an active lifestyle and nurtures character and leadership qualities in our boys. The programme imbibes sound values and develops socio-emotional competencies as the boys serve the community through their passion in sports.

In pursuit of their aspirations, Saints embark on an enriching and rewarding educational journey in St. Andrew’s Secondary School, growing into good men and dynamic servant leaders who are prepared to face challenges.

We thank God for His grace and faithfulness over the years, enabling the school to grow from its humble beginnings to what it is today - a well-established institution of learning with up-to- date facilities, and a student enrollment of more than a thousand.

We continue to look to God to bring the school to yet greater heights. Up and On!
